Overview

The Applied Mathematics (MMath, PhD) program at the University of Waterloo provides advanced training in mathematical modeling, analysis, and computational methods applied to real-world problems in fields such as engineering, physics, biology, and finance. Objectives include developing expertise in areas like fluid dynamics, mathematical biology, optimization, and scientific computing. Unique features include a research-intensive curriculum, opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and an optional co-operative education (co-op) component for MMath students to gain practical industry experience.

Career Prospects

Graduates are well-prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, government agencies, and industry sectors including technology, finance, and consulting. The program's emphasis on applied skills leads to high employability, with many alumni securing roles that leverage quantitative and analytical expertise.

Key Faculty/Staff

The program is supported by the Department of Applied Mathematics faculty, including researchers specializing in computational mathematics, dynamical systems, and applied analysis.

Unique Facilities or Partnerships

Students have access to state-of-the-art computational facilities within the Faculty of Mathematics, including high-performance computing clusters. Partnerships with industry leaders and research centres, such as the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, enhance collaborative opportunities.
