Rate My Professor Bogdan Dlugogorski

Professor Dlugogorski is renowned for his research in process safety, fire and explosion safety, extractive metallurgy, and environmental protection, with a particular emphasis on the formation of toxic products during combustion processes. His current research specializations encompass the development and performance evaluation of fluorine-free firefighting foams, refining of spodumene and other lithium minerals to produce lithium chemicals, recycling of fluoropolymers and plastics laden with brominated flame retardants and antimony trioxide, remediation of NOx emissions from mining explosives, and mitigation strategies for pollutants from thermal processes. He holds fellowships in the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, Combustion Institute, Society of Fire Protection Engineers, Engineers Australia, and Royal Australian Chemical Institute, and served as the Immediate Past Chairman of the International Association for Fire Safety Science. Among his honors is the 2020 Howard Emmons Invited Plenary Lectureship awarded by the IAFSS. With an H-index of 54 and annual citations exceeding 1200, key publications include "Advancing bromine recovery: Solid-phase fixation during calcium-assisted pyrolysis of TTBP–TAZ (Tris(2,4,6-tribromophenyl)-1,3,5-triazine) and TBBPA (Tetrabromobisphenol A)" (2026), "PCDD/F/PCB emissions from energy generation in Central Europe: uptake mechanisms in biomass, fingerprint profiling and source modeling" (2025), and "Refining α-Spodumene with Potassium Sulfate Compared to the Conventional Sulfuric Acid Process" (2025). He has supervised or co-supervised more than 50 PhD candidates to completion, with 14 now holding academic positions across multiple countries.
