Rate My Professor Chaoping Dong

Dong's research specializes in algebraic combinatorics, representation theory of Lie algebras, posets, and related structures. His notable publications include "Ad-nilpotent ideals and the Shi arrangement," published in the Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A in 2013, which explores connections between ideals in Lie algebras and Shi arrangements. In 2015, he authored "Folded bump diagrams for partitions of classical types" in Advances in Applied Mathematics. A significant contribution came in 2018 with "Minuscule representations and Panyushev conjectures," co-authored with Guobiao Weng and appearing in Science China Mathematics. This paper proves four conjectures by Panyushev on root posets from Z-gradings of simple Lie algebras, linking to Kostant-Macdonald identities, Stembridge’s t = −1 phenomenon, and cyclic sieving. Dong also serves as a contact professor for faculty recruitment in mathematics at Hunan University, supporting the growth of the department which encompasses research in algebra, harmonic analysis, dynamic systems, and combinatorics among its 85 full-time faculty members including 15 professors.
