Rate My Professor Chris White

White's research centres on theoretical particle physics, including Quantum Chromodynamics to describe quarks and gluons inside the proton, and predictions for experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. He has pioneered applications of the double copy relation between gauge theories and gravity, extending it to black holes and exotic objects. Additional interests encompass quantum information measures in collider physics and using machine learning alongside online data mining to quantify and communicate the societal impact of fundamental physics research. He has published over 80 papers in these fields, with notable contributions such as 'The double copy: gravity from gluons' (2018). In recent work with his twin brother Professor Martin White, he identified hidden quantum 'magic' states in top quark production at the LHC, forging new links between high-energy physics and quantum information (2024). White teaches 'Electric and Magnetic Fields', an undergraduate course on electromagnetism and Maxwell's equations, and 'Collider Physics' at masters level. He is Programme Director for the BSc Applied Artificial Intelligence and delivers public lectures, including 'How physics connects our universe' at the Royal Institution.
