Dr. Ooi's research specializations include nanomaterial fuel additives such as carbon-based and boron-based nanoparticles to enhance combustion performance, development of low-carbon fuel blends from renewable sources like vegetable oils, agricultural waste, tires, and plastics, fundamental combustion science in co-flow and counterflow diffusion flames, advanced optimisation using machine learning, response surface methodology, and genetic algorithms, hydrogen and ammonia combustion, sustainable integrated energy systems with exergy and life-cycle assessments, and heat transfer in microchannels and graphene systems. He has authored and co-authored over 38 international journal papers and secured competitive research funding from Petronas Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme, and industry partners.
