About Karan

Dr. Karan Gulati is a Senior Lecturer and Research Group Leader in the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland. He holds the positions of Deputy Director of Research for the School of Dentistry and Deputy Director of the Centre for Orofacial Regeneration, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (COR3). Leading the GATORs (Group for Anodized Therapies for Osseointegration, Regeneration and Stimulation) research group, Dr. Gulati specializes in electrochemically nano-engineered dental implants, with over 13 years of experience applying nano-engineering to bioactive and therapeutic applications. His research tackles critical challenges in implant performance, such as suboptimal osseointegration, soft-tissue integration, immunomodulation, and bacterial infections. This is achieved through surface engineering techniques, including anodized nanotubes and nanopores on materials like titanium, zirconia, NiTi, and Ti64 alloys, enabling enhanced bioactivity, tailorable drug delivery, and mechano-transduction for dental, orthopaedic, and craniofacial implants.
