Professor Miles specializes in gender, work, employment relations, and labour regulation in developing countries, focusing on improving working conditions for women workers through corporate codes of conduct, unions, and NGOs in Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Korea. Her recent research addresses social inclusion of migrant workers and refugees, including sexual and reproductive health needs of women migrant workers and Rohingya refugees in Malaysia. She has secured major grants such as the UNFPA grant (£23,981, 2025) for NGO capacity building for Rohingya reproductive health in Malaysia, EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (£200,000, 2022) for asylum seeker decision-making journeys to the UK, British Council Newton Fund Impact Scheme (£150,000, 2020) for piloting SRH interventions in Malaysia, and UNWOMEN (US$15,000, 2019) for SRHR strategy paper. Key publications include "Bricolentrepreneuring: A comparative phenomenological study of Ukrainian refugees’ entrepreneurial bricolage practices in the UK and Romania" (2025), "Self-surveillance practices of factory women migrant workers receiving SRH interventions in Malaysia" (2024), "A Handbook to Support the Sexual and Reproductive Health Needs of Factory Women Migrant Workers" (2022), and "Empowerment as a pre-requisite to managing and influencing health in the workplace: The Sexual and Reproductive Health needs of factory women migrant workers in Malaysia" (2021). She co-leads the Research Centre on Peripheral Populations and the Diversity and Inclusion Research Community, teaches modules including Current Issues in International Development and CSR and Sustainability in Context, and supervises postgraduate students on development and sustainable business topics.
