Dr. Matthew Mashikian served as Professor of Electrical Engineering and Founding Director of the Electrical Insulation Research Center at the University of Connecticut from 1983 until his retirement in 1997. He earned a B.E. degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Wayne State University, and a Dr. Eng. degree in Engineering from the University of Detroit. Prior to his academic appointment, he worked for 16 years at Detroit Edison Company as Supervising Engineer in the Engineering Research Department and for five years at ASEA (now ABB).
Dr. Mashikian is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, and a Past Chairman of the Insulated Conductors Committee of IEEE/PES. He holds a dozen patents and has published extensively on cables, dielectrics, diagnostic systems, and electric vehicles. He is the founder of IMCORP, where he serves as Chief Technical Officer and Chief Executive Officer, focusing on power cable reliability assessment services. In recognition of his contributions, the Matthew & Margarethe Mashikian Innovation & Entrepreneurship Hub was established at UConn Engineering through his generous support.
