Professor Raghunathan Rengaswamy is the Marti Mannariah Gurunath Chair Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He also serves as Dean of Global Engagement at IIT Madras. He earned a BTech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1990 and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1995. Prior to his current role, he held positions as Assistant Professor at IIT Bombay, Associate and full Professor at Clarkson University, and Professor of Chemical Engineering and co-director of the Process Control and Optimization Consortium at Texas Tech University.
His research focuses on process systems engineering, fuel cells, computational discrete microfluidics, fault detection and diagnosis, sensor placement algorithms, reinforcement learning, big data process analytics, and machine learning applications in engineering. He has authored the books Process Control Fundamentals (CRC Press, 2020) and Data Science for Engineers (CRC Press, 2022). Among his honors are the YBG Varma Award for Excellence in Teaching from IIT Madras, fellowship in the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Young Engineer Award from INAE, and the Graham Faculty Research Award from Clarkson University. He is a co-founder of Gyan Data Pvt. Ltd. and has contributed to various professional committees and advisory roles in data science, AI, and chemical engineering.
