A native of Richardson, Texas, he earned his B.M. from Northwestern University and both his M.M. and D.M.A. from The Catholic University of America, completing his doctorate in 2006. Previously, he directed Instrumental Ensembles at Catholic University for three years and retired as Principal Saxophonist and National Tour Soloist with the United States Navy Band, serving from 1987 to 2011 while also coordinating the Navy Band's International Saxophone Symposium. Throughout his tenure with the Navy Band, he performed for five U.S. Presidents, numerous foreign dignitaries, and audiences across all 48 states and worldwide. His acclaimed solo performances include Jacques Ibert’s Concertino da Camera with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, described by The Washington Post as “simply stunning,” and multiple appearances with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, where the Dallas Morning News praised his “creamiest, most gorgeous sounds ever heard from a saxophone” and “deft, lovingly played saxophone.”
