Her academic qualifications include a BSc in Chemistry (1993), MSc in Chemistry (1996) from UM, and PhD in Electrochemistry from the University of East Anglia, UK (1999). Alias's research focuses on electrochemistry, ionic liquids, sensors and biosensors, supramolecular chemistry, nanomaterials, and inorganic chemistry. With an h-index of 41, over 9,000 citations, and more than 260 publications, notable works include 'Mechanical properties and biomedical applications of a nanotube hydroxyapatite-reduced graphene oxide composite' (Carbon, 2014; 403 citations), 'Ionic conductivity studies of poly(vinyl alcohol) alkaline solid polymer electrolyte and its use in nickel-zinc cells' (Solid State Ionics, 2003; 277 citations), 'One-step hydrothermal green synthesis of silver nanoparticle-carbon nanotube reduced-graphene oxide composite and its application as hydrogen peroxide sensor' (Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2015; 253 citations), and recent papers on supercapacitors based on ternary composites (ACS Applied Nano Materials, 2025) and reactive oxygen species-induced pharmaceutical waste degradation (Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2025).
