The University
To celebrate the 90th Anniversary of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we proudly launch the landmark 90 Scholars for the 90th Anniversary faculty recruitment program. As an innovative world-class university guided by our updated 2025 vision and mission, PolyU is committed to advancing excellence in education and high-impact research, nurturing global talent, and contributing to the sustainable development of Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world. Our standing as a top tier global institution…
is firmly affirmed by exceptional international rankings: 50th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and 52th in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities 2026–2027, underscoring our academic rigor, research innovation, and global influence.
This prestigious initiative is designed to attract exceptional scholars across transformative, frontier defining fields: artificial intelligence and related areas, robotics and embedded intelligence, microelectronics, aerospace technology, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, materials science, new energy, and architecture and urban sustainability. Applicants in other areas of strategic importance to the University are also most welcome. By recruiting 90 distinguished academics and rising young leaders, we aim to strengthen interdisciplinary research capacity, accelerate fundamental breakthroughs, and shape the future of global scientific and technological progress.
Rooted in 90 years of heritage and intellectual achievement, the program embodies PolyU’s dedication to pushing the frontiers of knowledge, fostering academic leadership, and addressing grand challenges facing humanity. It represents a historic investment in our academic community, reinforcing our ambition to remain a dynamic, innovative world-class university at the forefront of global higher education and research excellence.
This initiative will be implemented as part of the University’s well-established Strategic Hiring Scheme. Faculty members recruited through the Strategic Hiring Scheme (SHS) at Chair Professor or Professor level, as well as outstanding young scholars who are appointed under the Presidential Young Scholar Scheme will receive a start-up grant of HKD 5 million or more to support research activities (including the admission of two PhD students, purchase of equipment, hiring of research staff, etc.) in the initial five years, whereas those appointed at Associate Professor or Assistant Professor level through SHS will receive a start-up grant of HKD 3 million or more.
