Job description
Are you fascinated by the multi-faceted nature of flowing matter? Do you strive to build a physics-based understanding of the underlying complex, multiscale dynamics and translate that understanding into impactful applications? Do you have a solid track record in fluid dynamics research, together with the ambition to establish an internationally recognized academic career and grow into a leading role in your field? This position offers an outstanding opportunity to develop scientific leadership,…
establish an independent research program, and shape the future of fluid dynamics research through innovation, collaboration, and education.
Information
We invite applications for an Assistant Professor position in the broad field of fluid dynamics and flowing matter. The research profile can be theoretical, computational, experimental, or a combination thereof. We welcome applicants who seek to advance the fundamental understanding of fluid dynamics while translating scientific insights into applications and societal impact in areas such as nature, technology, and health.
The position is embedded within the research unit Fluids and Flows of the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education (APSE) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Our research unit focuses on both fundamental and applied physics of a wide range of flow phenomena using experimental, computational, and theoretical methods. Current research topics within the unit include turbulent and multiphase flows, environmental and geophysical fluid dynamics, complex fluids and flows, and micro- and nano hydrodynamics. The ideal candidate complements and strengthens our existing expertise while establishing a distinctive research line and opening new scientific directions within the broader field of fluids and flows.
You will independently develop and lead your own research program and team, while benefiting from the collaborative environment of a larger research unit and an open, collegial department culture. You will also contribute to high-quality education and play an active role in the continued development of the Bachelor and Master curricula in Applied Physics.
We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the potential to develop scientific leadership, build an internationally visible research program, and foster collaborations across disciplines and sectors.
To support you, we provide you with a startup package and access to state-of-the-art research facilities. We offer a dedicated mentoring program, as well as extensive opportunities for professional development, research leadership training, and career advancement. The TU/e also offers a stimulating environment for collaborations with other research units, departments, and industry. Within TU/e, depending on the research profile of the candidate, exciting collaborative opportunities exist with other departments, as well as with multidisciplinary TU/e institutes such as the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems (ICMS), and the Eindhoven Institute for Renewable Energy Systems (EIRES). Furthermore, within the Netherlands, the J.M. Burgers Center (JMBC) offers a vibrant community for research and education in fluid mechanics.
Requirements
- PhD in (Applied) Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
- At least two years of relevant research experience after the PhD as a postdoctoral researcher or equivalent.
- For TU/e PhD graduates, at least one year of substantive research experience in a genuinely different external scientific environment is expected.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct high-quality research, evidenced by a strong publication record and other relevant scientific achievements.
- Motivated to teach, contribute to educational processes, and (further) develop as a teacher.
- Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English.
Conditions of employment
A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station.
In addition, we offer you:
- A fulltime Assistant Professor position.
- An immediate tenured position for qualified candidates.
- A Development Track with the prospect of becoming an Associate Professor.
