Description
The Department of Psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland is accepting applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Psychology (Clinical/Counseling), beginning fall 2027. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is essential. The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $78,000 based on level of experience; startup costs are negotiable; benefits information is available online (https://www.smcm.edu/human-resources/benefits-and-leave/).

The development of an active research program involving undergraduates is expected, and a commitment to culturally competent teaching/mentoring and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments is essential. St. Mary's College is committed to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
To support your transition and professional development, first-year faculty are provided a reduced workload, shared course materials, and a structured mentoring program. We offer negotiated start-up grants and lab space to continue your research, especially encouraging projects that involve undergraduate students. Opportunities to include students in research are rewarded through guided research courses, such as PSYC 396 - Collaborative Research and PSYC X97 - Directed Research. The department has a robust history of bringing student and faculty research to regional and national conferences, and a number of faculty have collaborated with students on peer-reviewed publications (https://www.smcm.edu/program-psychology/research-opportunities/). The department values theoretical, empirical, and applied scholarship; there are many ways to thrive as a professor here.

Preference will be given to candidates with a proven commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices that promote belonging, inclusion, and equity.
