Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature in hand by May 2027, a good teaching record, and a clearly defined research agenda. Candidates should be able to offer specialized teaching in their research field, and should also be well prepared to teach across various genres and periods in English literature. The starting date for this post is September 2027.
The Department of English Language and Literature currently offers an undergraduate program that covers British, Irish, and postcolonial literatures, ranging from the medieval period to the present. American Culture and Literature is an independent department at Bilkent, and we will not consider applicants working solely on U.S. literature, though transatlantic and comparative approaches are welcome. The teaching load for faculty is 2-2. The successful candidate would join a department that has been expanding continually over the past few years and is dedicated to supporting faculty research. Further information about the department can be found on the department website: http://elit.bilkent.edu.tr.
Bilkent University was founded in 1984 with the fundamental aim of creating a center of excellence in higher education and research; a non-profit foundation university supported by its own endowment, it is home to a vibrant international community. Faculty members come from 34 different countries, and the language of instruction across the university is English. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The university offers a generous benefits package including on-campus housing and health and retirement benefits, as well as subsidized private school for faculty members' dependents.
