Description

The Yale University School of Art invites applications for a full-time Associate Professor Adjunct faculty appointment in Sculpture to begin July 1, 2027. Candidates must hold an MFA or equivalent degree. The candidate will serve as the Director of Graduate Studies for a designated period of three years with the potential for renewal, while remaining active professionally and teaching in a rigorous academic environment.

Qualifications

We seek a working artist with a primary focus on sculpture or its expanded category. The candidate should have an active and engaged exhibition record, as well as a strong technical background and conceptual grounding in the medium and history of sculpture. A minimum of 5 years college-level teaching and service experience, and an ongoing, excellent, and dynamic art practice is required. A knowledge of the discourses around contemporary art and the ability to address works across disciplines is necessary. A fully engaged presence on campus is required. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Department’s two ladder faculty members to shape the future of the Sculpture area at the School of Art.

This role includes the teaching of graduate and undergraduate level courses, advising graduate and undergraduate students, overseeing master’s theses, participating in critique sessions, mentoring students, serving on School of Art committees, and actively contributing to and participating in the school’s vibrant co-curricular programming.

Reporting to the dean, the Director of Graduate Studies in Sculpture oversees curriculum development, scheduling courses, coordinating departmental budgets, and - in conjunction with the Dean - hiring and evaluating part-time or per-course faculty to maintain curricular standards. The ideal candidate should have a vision and passion for graduate education in studio art in the liberal arts / research university context; be an empathetic and experienced advisor to students from different backgrounds and working in various mediums; and have administrative experience. A record of educational service that addresses multiple modalities of accessibility, content, and teaching is a crucial criterion for consideration.
