II. Teaching
- Deliver lectures, seminars, preclinical simulation exercises,
clinical teaching, and online teaching to support the Department of
Periodontics didactic, pre-clinical and clinical courses.
- Serve as a course director for assigned predoctoral courses,
with responsibility for course planning, implementation,
coordination, and evaluation.
- Be accessible, approachable, and fair in your interactions with
students.
- Provide feedback and assessment using methods that preserve
dignity, promote learning, develop consistency and lead to valid
outcomes.
- Participate fully in department calibration exercises.
- Utilize student ratings of instruction and peer evaluations to
improve curricular content and delivery.
III. Patient Care
- Promote patient-centered care in our clinics.
- Engage in faculty orientation and calibration.
- Help set high standards of care for our clinics; refer when
appropriate; and participate in quality assurance programs.
- Be on time for clinical sessions for which you are responsible
and stay the full session.
- Provide periodontal surgical care, including evaluation,
treatment planning, and surgery
- Participate in and provide coverage for evening/night clinic
sessions as assigned to ensure continuity of patient care and
student supervision.
IV. Scholarship
- Build research endeavors in which you are genuinely
interested.
- Demonstrate effort in scholarly activities including peer-
reviewed publications and presentations to colleagues.
- Recognize that scholarship is necessary for promotion.
V. Service
- Engage in service opportunities related to the dental school,
the university, the profession, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Dental school generalist teaching model, integrated
interprofessional care, and competency-based education and
assessment methodology.
- Accepted non-surgical and surgical protocols for the
periodontal management of patients.
- Computer software to include World, Excel, AxiUm and
PowerPoint.
Experience:
- Minimum two years teaching experience in an accredited dental
school setting.
- Minimum of five years' practice experience.
Education
- DDS/DMD or equivalent.
- Certificate of Proficiency in Periodontics from a recognized
U.S. post-doctoral program.
- Valid CPR certificate.
Working Conditions:
- Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be reasonably
anticipated. Personal protective equipment is expected to be
utilized.
- Position requires coordination of a variety of duties in
occasionally stressful non-clinical and clinical situations.
- Requires occasional attendance at weekend/evening events and
meetings.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative but not
definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully
perform the essential functions of this job.
GENERAL: Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute
movements essential to providing oral health care to
patients.
SPECIFIC: Must possess the motor skills to perform palpation,
percussion, auscultation and other diagnostic maneuvers, basic
laboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures in
a timely manner. Such actions require coordination of gross and
fine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional uses of the
senses of touch and vision.
SPECIFIC: Must be able to perform basic life support including CPR,
transfer and position patients with disabilities, physically
restrain adults and children who lack motor control, and position
and reposition himself or herself around the patient and chair in
sitting and standing positions for prolonged periods of time. A
student must promote and support the ability of coworkers to
perform prompt care. Must be able to operate controls, use
high-speed or low-speed dental handpieces for tooth preparation
procedures, and use hand instrumentation including scalpels for
surgical procedures. All of these skills must be performed within a
reasonable time frame.
Special Instructions:
For in-person roles: This is an in-person role,
and the successful candidate must be willing to relocate within
California, preferably within 25 miles of the (City) Pacific
campus.
For online roles: While this is an online
position, Pacific's three campuses are within California and its
faculty and staff are mostly California residents. For
administrative purposes, California residents are preferred. Out of
state hires must be approved either by the Provost and Executive
Vice President for Academic Affairs (for academic hires) or by the
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Finance
and Operations.
