Where discovery never stops. Be part of something bigger.
The University isn’t just any employer. We are part of a local community and a contributor to global thinking, progress and research. In Edinburgh, you are in one of the world’s most attractive cities with active arts and social sectors, while working in a university that has made significant contributions to society, medicine, physics and teaching for over four centuries. Our people have helped create the modern world and are working on more ground-breaking technologies and practices. Join the University of Edinburgh and you’ll be making a difference to everything around you.
The Opportunity:
Since 2008, the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) at the University of Edinburgh has appointed some of the brightest academic minds to undertake a clinical PhD via the Wellcome-funded ECAT programme.
People have always been at the heart of our work. As part of the University, you are a part of our community. We are looking for people with drive, determination, and a passion for what they do. We are a place where everyone is welcome and offer a range of policies and benefits designed to support you in building the right meaningful/personalised flexibility for you.
Building on the research training excellence developed over that period, and with a combination of external and institutional (CMVM) PhD funding, the ECAT programme continues to go from strength to strength. We now seek to recruit an ECAT Veterinary Clinical Lecturer for an August 2027 start.
The successful candidate will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure, large-scale data resources and a diverse supervisory pool of internationally competitive investigators. This environment will support ambitious, curiosity-driven researchers, building upon established strengths in genetics, cell biology, in vivo model systems, human disease and health data science while enabling novel, interdisciplinary approaches to fundamental biological, technological and social mechanisms underpinning health and disease.
Before beginning the three-year PhD project, a lead-in year will feature 0.7 FTE dedicated research time to support development of external funding applications, and the post-PhD year will feature protected research time to work towards substantiative further funding.
Candidates will be expected to identify and apply for external PhD funding during their lead-in year.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- evidence of high academic achievement
- you will have completed an internship and/or residency or experience in clinical practice
Candidates who have already undertaken a period of research leading to a doctoral degree are not eligible to apply.
A Skilled Worker Visa is an essential requirement for non-UK citizens.
Level 2 Disclosure check (Standard Disclosure) required.
A career with us has a range of other benefits, including leading-edge research, opportunities for publication and working within one of the world’s leading universities.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.
