About the Project
Department: Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College London
Duration of study: Full time – 4 years
Application deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is appointed.
Primary Supervisor: Dr Xinling Yue
Project description
Applications are invited for a funded PhD studentship in Integrated Circuits Design at University College London.
The project will investigate mixed-signal and analog IC design for biomedical applications. The research directions include ultrasonic wireless power transfer; battery-free sensing systems; bidirectional data communication with downlink and high-speed uplink; and system-level integration for implantable and wearable medical devices.
Funding
This is a fully funded 4-year studentship to cover the Home (UK) student’s tuition fees plus a £24,522/year stipend (value for 27/28) for living costs increasing with inflation. International students are welcome to apply, however they will need to cover the difference between home and overseas tuition fees.
More details about the stipend and fees can be found here.
Person specification
Applicants should have:
- a master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline;
- a strong interest in integrated circuits design, especially in power management integrated circuit design and ultrasonic IC design for biomedical chips;
- Previous tapeout experience or publications are desirable but not required.
The candidate should pass the entry requirements of PhD programme at UCL EEE, which can be found here.
How to apply
Applications must be made using the UCL online application system by using the UCL postgraduate study application form. Please indicate Dr Xinling Yue as the proposed supervisor.
Before applying, interested candidates are welcome to send the following to Dr Xinling Yue at xinling.yue@ucl.ac.uk.
- a CV;
- academic transcripts;
- a brief statement, approximately a half page, describing their research interests and suitability for the project;
Please use the subject line: PhD Studentship in Chip Design.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a formal interview.
Equality, diversity, and inclusion
Our research is driven forward by talented researchers and PhD students who come from countries and backgrounds across the globe. We therefore strongly encourage applications from underrepresented backgrounds in engineering, such as women, ethnic minorities, or people with disabilities– EEE is a great place for you to study! We will make reasonable adjustments at interview and/or in the position as requested.
The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL was established by Professor Sir Ambrose Fleming in 1885 and has a very strong research culture, state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities, and a very rich history of many fundamental research achievements in electronic and electrical engineering. The department has received top ratings in every UK research evaluation carried out to date. Further information regarding UCL may be found at www.ucl.ac.uk. Information about the department may be found at: www.ucl.ac.uk/eee.
Contact
For informal inquiries please contact Dr Xinling Yue at xinling.yue@ucl.ac.uk who will be happy to answer any queries about the project.
