Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No
Offer Description
As part of the ANR Pathways project, which aims at aligning digital development with planetary boundaries, this PhD topic seeks to contribute to the emergence of circular electronics by promoting the reuse of electronic components through a second-life approach.
The objective is twofold: to curb the growing production of electronic waste and to reduce the pressure on critical materials.
While recent technological advances now make it possible to consider a more reliable estimation of components' Remaining Useful Life (RUL), a major hurdle remains: constructing business models capable of making this reuse viable and deployable at an industrial scale.
The goal will be to identify the mechanisms of value creation and sharing associated with the reuse of electronic components, taking into account industrial, regulatory, and organizational constraints.
Particular attention will be paid to:
• the costs and benefits of the approach
• the liability and warranty models associated with reuse
• the opportunities offered by standards, public policies, and incentive schemes
• as well as the geopolitical challenges related to securing critical material supplies
The ultimate ambition is to help structure a future electronic component reuse sector capable of bridging technological innovation and sustainable business models
