About the Project
The research will focus on improving the performance of polycrystalline thin film cadmium telluride solar cells. This is the most successful second-generation solar technology.
Performance is limited by defects introduced during the rapid, low temperature manufacturing process. Using high resolution spectroscopic and nanoscale imaging techniques, the defects and their location will be identified. Processing strategies will then be devised to mitigate their effect.
The research will be carried out in collaboration with other international research teams and leading industrial partners.
94% of Loughborough’s research impact is rated world-leading or internationally excellent. REF 2021
