About this role
Competitive Salary
Monday to Thursday 8.30-5pm, Friday 8.30-4.30
Your Skills Built the Machines. Now Build the Next Generation.
You’ve spent years under bonnets, over welding benches and out in the field. You know a hydraulic fault by sound, you can diagnose a stubborn tractor before the kettle boils, and you’ve picked up tricks that no textbook will ever teach. What if you could pass all of that on?
Lecturer in Land-based Engineering | Bishop Burton College & Riseholme College
Who you are
You’re a skilled professional in agricultural, land-based or general engineering: a technician, fitter, welder, service engineer or workshop manager. You’re good at what you do, and you’re ready for a role where that expertise really matters. You might already be training apprentices informally. You might never have set foot in a classroom as a teacher. Either way, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll teach and inspire the next generation of land-based engineers, with hands-on sessions in industry-standard workshops using specialist machinery. Your students will learn machinery maintenance, diagnostics, welding, fabrication and modern agricultural engineering technologies, and they’ll learn them from someone who has actually done the job. You’ll plan and deliver lessons, assess progress, work alongside colleagues and practical resource teams, and help students become confident, work-ready professionals. You’ll also build and strengthen links with local employers.
Why Bishop Burton?
- Teach in a working environment that mirrors industry, with real machinery, real workshops and real career pathways
- Be part of a team committed to producing highly skilled professionals ready for the evolving demands of agriculture and engineering
- Shape the future of a sector you care about
- Use your industry network to open doors for students
No teaching qualification? No problem.
We’re looking for your industry experience, your enthusiasm and your willingness to learn. We’ll support you to gain your teaching qualification and assessor award, so you can learn to teach while doing what you do best.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in a related industry (essential), ideally with some training or teaching experience
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, plus English and Maths at Level 2 (or a willingness to work towards them)
- Excellent communication skills and a real motivation to work with young people
- Resilience, creativity and a positive, can-do attitude
- Flexibility to attend occasional college events in the evenings and weekends
If you're passionate about engineering, enjoy sharing your knowledge, and want to help develop the future workforce of the agricultural engineering sector, we'd love to hear from you.
