Build your research career at one of Sweden's leading medical faculties
Linköping University is launching a major investment in the next generation of researchers through eight fully funded postdoctoral positions in medicine and health sciences. The initiative is made possible through funding from The Catharina Högbom and Michael Cocozza Research Foundation and is designed to attract promising researchers from universities around the world.
The positions are hosted by internationally active research environments within the Faculty of Medicine, at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) and the Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV). Each position is funded for 36 months and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research profile while contributing to an established and collaborative research environment.
A unique opportunity for future research leaders
The foundation's investment is intended to strengthen outstanding research environments while creating long-term career opportunities for talented early-career researchers. Beyond conducting high-quality research, successful candidates will have the opportunity to build the skills, networks and scientific independence needed for future leadership in academia.
The foundation also encourages international mobility and the selected postdocs will spend between 6 to 12 months abroad, helping them to expand their international network and strengthen their academic profile.
In the third year of the appointment, postdoctoral researchers may apply for an additional research grant of approximately SEK 500,000. The grant is intended for researchers who demonstrate both the ambition and potential to establish their own research environment.
Eligibility
Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree no more than 36 months before the application deadline. Extensions may be granted for clinical training, parental leave, sick leave, military service and similar circumstances.

More about each position and application
Postdoc in cancer genomics
Claudio Cantù, Professor
“One of the greatest mysteries of biology is how cells become different: they all have the same instruction manual, our genome. Uncovering this will not only explain how embryonic development unfolds, but also many human diseases whose onset does not depend on genetics — namely mutations in the DNA — but on epigenetic mechanisms. Join the Cantù Lab and exercise your creativity to help us unraveling this mystery.”
Postdoc in cancer systems biology
Linda Bojmar, Assistant Professor, Docent
“Do you want to advance our understanding of metastatic cancer and help predict which treatment is most likely to benefit each patient? We integrate multimodal human data into mechanistic and AI-based models to advance precision oncology. Join our multidisciplinary team and help us build next-generation cancer digital twins.”
Postdoc in epidemiology and public health
Pontus Henriksson, Senior Associate Professor in nutritional physiology
“We are an international research group focusing on cardiovascular epidemiology, health behaviours and disease prevention. We seek a postdoc to investigate atherosclerosis and cardiovascular health using unique data from SCAPIS, a large Swedish population-based study.”
Postdoc in heart failure care research (LiLAC-HF)
Naoko Perkiö Kato, Associate Professor, Docent
“Our project team is part of a vibrant cardiovascular care research environment at Linköping University, comprising approximately 15 researchers from doctoral students to professors. The environment provides excellent opportunities to develop research expertise, expand national and international collaborations, and strengthen the skills needed for an independent research career.”
Postdoc in ion channel physiology
Sara Liin, Senior Associate Professor
“Do you share our fascination for ion channel proteins in physiology and disease? If your answer is YES: Please consider joining our research adventure on understanding context-dependent modulation of voltage-gated potassium channels and how to utilize this in selective drug design.”
Postdoc in neuroscience specializing in non-invasive brain stimulation of the cerebellum
Kajsa Igelström, Associate Professor, Docent
“We are a small, friendly group with big tools: non-invasive deep brain stimulation and fMRI to probe how the cerebellum shapes cognition and social behavior. Expect a fully funded three-year position, close mentoring, international collaborators and real room to grow your own research line.”
Postdoc in novel ion-channel engineering
Antonios Pantazis, Senior Associate Professor
“Ion channels are the best—but can we make them better? Bring your curiosity, think outside the box and build novel ion-channel prototypes. Our goal for the next 3 years: to make the tools that will shape the future of research and medical electrophysiology.”
Postdoc in tumor immunology and immunotherapy
Judit Svensson Arvelund, Assistant Professor, Docent
“Join a dynamic and collaborative research environment combining experimental models, patient samples and cutting-edge technologies to explore tumor–immune interactions and advance our understanding of response and resistance to cancer immunotherapy.”
