Offer Description
The project:
The ElastiCation project aims to investigate how the molecular design and functionalisation of elastin-based biomaterials influence their susceptibility to calcification. Elastin-based biomaterials (such as ELRs) are promising candidates for novel cardiovascular implants due to their favourable mechanical properties and biological compatibility. Our group has developed cardiovascular implants incorporating such ELRs, which are recombinant proteins whose amino acid sequence can be precisely tailored and functionalised with bioactive motifs. As an important next step towards the development of ELR-based cardiovascular implants, we now want to understand and control their response to calcification.
The place:
You will be joining the Biomaterials group in the Department of Biohybrid & Medical Textiles (BioTex) at the Institute of Applied Medical Engineering (AME), RWTH Aachen University. We work at the interface of biomaterials, tissue engineering, and cardiovascular research.
Starting date: January 2027
What we offer:
You will work in an interdisciplinary research environment combining engineering, material science and biomedical research. The project provides access to a broad range of methods in biomaterial characterisation, cell culture, imaging, and cardiovascular testing and offers opportunities for scientific collaboration and participation in international conferences.
