The Consumer Behavior Research Group is looking for a PhD student who is interested in investigating the public's perception of the potential opportunities and risks of a declining population.
The start date is January 2027 or by agreement.
Project background
While the global population continues to grow, many European countries are experiencing population decline. A population decline is often implicitly associated with negative consequences for societal well-being, including increased pressure on economic growth, public finances, labor markets, and public services. However, the consequences of a population decline are complex and can also present potential opportunities. Examples include reduced strain on infrastructure and decreased pressure on resources and the environment. Understanding public perception is particularly relevant, as it influences not only individual behavior but also public discourse and societal responses.
The aim of this doctoral thesis is to investigate the perception of potential opportunities and risks associated with population decline and to contribute to identifying and understanding the factors that influence this perception.
