Plastic Injection Mold Maker / Toolmaker

Fitchburg, Massachusetts
$40.00-$55.00/hour + Overtime | $7,500 Sign-On Bonus | Relocation Assistance Available
Your Mold-Making Expertise Is Hard to Find. We Value It Accordingly.

Micron Solutions is looking nationwide for an experienced Plastic Injection Mold Maker / Toolmaker who can independently build, fit, assemble, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot complex plastic injection molds.

If you have spent your career working hands-on with injection mold tooling and are considering your next opportunity, don't let location stop you from having a conversation with us. We offer relocation assistance for qualified candidates, competitive pay up to $55.00/hour, overtime opportunities, and a $7,500 sign-on bonus payable after six months of continuous employment.

This is a hands-on mold-making position for someone who understands the complete mold system and can independently diagnose tooling problems, determine the appropriate repair, perform precision toolroom and bench work, and return molds to production-ready condition.

Direct plastic injection mold-making experience is required. This is not a CNC-only machining position.
What You'll Do
  • Build, fit, spot, assemble, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot precision plastic injection molds.
  • Independently diagnose mold problems, determine required repairs, and return tooling to production-ready condition.
  • Troubleshoot flash, parting lines, shutoffs, venting, ejection, cooling, water leaks, wear, alignment, and complex mold actions.
  • Fit, repair, and replace cores, cavities, inserts, slides, lifters, ejector systems, leader pins, bushings, and related mold components.
  • Perform precision bench work, fitting, spotting, polishing, and mold assembly.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, mold refurbishment, and engineering changes.
  • Verify proper mold fit, alignment, cooling, ejection, and mechanical movement.
  • Support mold trials, sampling, qualification, and tooling troubleshooting at the molding machine.
  • Use mills, lathes, grinders, EDM, and other toolroom equipment to build, repair, or modify mold components.
  • Inspect components and verify critical dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring equipment.
  • Read and interpret mold drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and dimensional specifications.
  • Partner with Processing, Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and Tooling to resolve problems and improve mold performance.
  • Document repairs, modifications, preventive maintenance, and tooling improvements.
  • Mentor less-experienced tooling personnel and share mold-making best practices.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized toolroom.

  • Job Qualifications

    • Parting lines and shutoffs
    • Leader pins and bushings
    • Mold actions and mechanical components
  • Strong precision fitting, spotting, polishing, bench work, and mold assembly skills.
  • Ability to independently diagnose tooling problems and determine the appropriate repair.
  • Ability to read mold drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and dimensional specifications.
  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
