Offer Description
RECTOR OF CZESTOCHOWA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor (POST-DOC) (F/M) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering under the NCN project 2025/59/B/ST8/00428: “Investigation of the Mechanisms of Instability and Laminar-to-Turbulent Transition in a Separated Shear Layer under Various Flow and Acoustic Conditions”
Applications are invited from candidates who meet the detailed requirements set out by the recruitment committee appointed in accordance with the NCN (National Science Centre) regulations.
Eligibility criteria
- A doctoral degree (PhD) in engineering and technical sciences in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, or in natural and exact sciences if the research covers experimental fluid mechanics (obtained no earlier than 7 years prior to the year of employment in the project).
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, turbulence and aeroacoustics.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of acoustic wave propagation and the interaction between acoustic excitation and flow.
- Documented experience in experimental fluid mechanics, particularly in aerodynamics. Ability to design and configure measurement set-ups, integrate various measurement techniques, and conduct experiments in a wind tunnel.
- Practical experience in the metrology of turbulent flows and measurement methods used in fluid mechanics, in particular hot-wire anemometry (HWA) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), using software such as Dantec DynamicStudio.
- Ability to apply advanced signal-processing methods to velocity-field data, including frequency-domain analysis, wavelet transforms, or equivalent techniques.
- Very good knowledge of at least one environment for the acquisition and analysis of scientific data, e.g. Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW, and software for the visualisation and presentation of results, e.g. TECPLOT.
- Ability to independently plan and conduct research activities and to document experimental work.
- A strong publication record in experimental fluid mechanics, particularly in the field of near-wall flow metrology.
- Experience in conducting research projects.
- Very good command of the English language.
Key responsibilities
- Participation in the design and configuration of the test rig.
- Participation in experimental research and conducting long-term measurements using HWA and PIV techniques.
- Data processing and analysis, and the development of new correlations between flow phenomena and acoustic excitations.
- Publishing results in scientific journals and actively participating in scientific conferences.
- Other tasks related to scientific activities within the project, as specified by the project manager.
Required documents
- Candidate’s CV.
- Copies of transcripts, certificates, and diplomas confirming the candidate’s qualifications.
- A record of academic, professional, teaching and organisational achievements, as well as completed internships.
- A list of the three most important publications, indicating the candidate’s contribution.
- A covering letter outlining the previous experience and the skills relevant to the position on offer.
- A 1–2-page description of research experience, with particular emphasis on work in experimental fluid mechanics.
- A letter of recommendation is an advantage.
- Candidates from countries outside the European Union must hold a valid visa and documented right to work in Poland. Employment of an international candidate will be subject to confirmation from the National Agency for Academic Exchange regarding the recognition of their academic degree.
Salary
PLN 17,500 per month (gross-gross, including the 13th-month salary), starting 1 January 2027, for a period of 24 months, with the possibility of extension for additional 12 months.
How to apply
APPLICATIONS AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED: via email to the project’s Principal Investigator Professor Witold Elsner, MScEng, PhD, DSc (e-mail: witold.elsner@pcz.pl).
Closing date for applications: 30 November 2026.
The results of the recruitment process will be announced by 10 December 2026. Candidates will be informed of the outcome via email by the project’s PI.
