10. Selection methods
The selection methods to be used will be the following: Curriculum Evaluation and Interview, with the respective valuation of 60% and 40%.
Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale from 0 (minimum) to 20 (maximum) in each of the evaluation criteria.
The selection of candidates is carried out in two components, the Curriculum Evaluation (CE), weighted at 60%, and the Interview (INT), weighted at 40%, the final classification (FC) being determined by the formula FC = 0.60 × CE + 0.40 × INT.
The Curriculum Evaluation reflects the candidate's academic record in two fields of knowledge relevant to the work plan, weighted as follows: Field A — Artificial Intelligence, 40%; Field B — Development of multimedia and cloud computing systems, 60%.
For each field, the arithmetic mean is calculated of the classifications obtained in all course units of the candidate's academic record whose syllabus falls within that field. The Project or Final Course Work course unit, once completed, is included in the field its topic belongs to.
A bonus of 2.0 points is awarded to candidates who have completed the Project or Final Course Work course unit on a topic developed in the field of artificial intelligence, evidenced by a course unit report, a code repository, a demonstration or other documentary evidence submitted with the application.
The Curriculum Evaluation is therefore given by CE = the minimum between 20 and the value of [0.40 × M(A) + 0.60 × M(B)] plus the applicable bonus, and may in no case exceed 20 points.
For classification purposes, and without prejudice to the jury's assessment of equivalent course units from other study plans, Field A comprises the course units of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence for Autonomous Systems, Image Processing and Computer Vision, and Probabilistic Reasoning and Simulation; and Field B comprises Multimedia Systems for the Internet, Multimedia Signal Coding, Multimedia Signal Processing, Multimedia Content Production, Distributed Computing Infrastructures, Computer Networks, Mobile Application Development and Database Systems.
Where the candidate has not yet completed any course unit falling within one of the fields, the weighting of that field is redistributed to the remaining field.
Candidates obtaining a classification equal to or higher than 12 points in the Curriculum Evaluation are called to the Interview. The Interview is intended to assess the candidate's technical skills, motivation and interest in the project, as well as the ability to express and argue, verbal fluency in Portuguese and the degree of autonomy demonstrated.
For tie-breaking purposes, the ranking of candidates will be carried out based on the classification obtained in the Interview.
11. Composition of the Selection Jury
The jury responsible for the selection will be constituted by the Chair, Prof. Doctor Pedro Mendes Jorge and by the Permanent Members Prof. Doctor André Lourenço and Assistant Guest Lecturer Hélder Bastos. The Alternate Member will be Prof. Doctor Pedro Fazenda.
12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications
