Overview
The Statistics programme at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) integrates foundational mathematical statistics, specialized doctoral seminars, comprehensive qualifying examinations, oral candidacy defenses, and original dissertation research. Doctoral candidates specialize through two defined degree tracks: the Traditional Statistics Track, focused on mathematical statistics and general applications, or the Biostatistics Track, which incorporates theoretical foundations with a scientific minor in a biomedical field.
Key Facts
Primary doctoral research domains cover Bayesian analysis, nonparametric statistics, and decision theory; biostatistics, survival analysis, and longitudinal data analysis; spatial statistics, image processing, and environmental risk assessment; and high-dimensional data analysis, resampling techniques, and ethical AI statistical models.
