Six Mile Media is the umbrella term for our award-winning student newspaper, the Six Mile Post, as well as our student-produced podcast, Student Spin. Content for both platforms are planned, written, edited and designed by students. Several students serve on the editorial board in paid positions.

Job Summary

Leads opinion, entertainment, arts, and campus culture coverage. Gives students a consistent outlet for voice and criticism, and maintains a clear separation between opinion content and news reporting..

There is 1 position open. The schedule is 5 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Plan and maintain coverage of entertainment, arts, campus life, and student culture
• Solicit, assign, and edit opinion columns, editorials, and letters, ensuring each is clearly labeled as opinion
• Assign and edit reviews of film, music, games, books, food, and campus and community events
• Develop recurring columns that give students a regular platform for their perspectives
• Coordinate with contributors producing satire cartoons and editorial illustration
• Maintain a clear separation between opinion content and news reporting

Required Qualifications

• Student must be currently enrolled at Georgia Highlands College in at least 6 credit hours
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Sound judgment about what is fair to publish as opinion, including comfort revising or declining submissions
• Interest in arts, entertainment, and campus life
• Able to meet deadlines consistently

This opportunity is open to students of any major and from any home campus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience writing reviews, columns, or commentary
• Familiarity with AP style

Proposed Salary

The rate of pay is $12 per hour.

Hours may not exceed 19 hours total hours per week across all campus employment

Employment period: August 2026 through May 2027, approximately 30 instructional weeks
