Teacher of Chemistry

science courses in years 7 and 8.

Chemistry teaching takes place in a suite of well-resourced laboratories. Year 9-11 students study the Edexcel GCSE curriculum; practical work plays a key role in chemistry throughout all year groups, and it is at the heart of student learning. Sixth Form students study for the Edexcel A level qualification. We presently have six chemistry classes in the Lower and seven classes in the Upper Sixth Form, a total of 172 pupils.

Public exam results in chemistry are outstanding. At GCSE level, in 2025, 67% of Year 11 pupils were awarded a Grade 9, and 88% achieved a Grade 8 or above. At A Level, 69% of Upper Sixth pupils were awarded an A or A*. In 2025, Perse pupils secured 8 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze awards in the Olympiad, and in the C3L6 14 Perse pupils achieved a gold award, placing those students in the top 9.8% in the country. A high proportion of pupils study chemistry in the Sixth Form and a large number go on to read chemistry or a chemistry related degree such as Natural Sciences or Medicine at university, with a high proportion at Oxbridge.

Public exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 30 schools nationally and in a typical year over 30 pupils will receive Oxbridge offers. The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school.
