🎓 What is an Adjunct Professor?

An Adjunct Professor, often referred to as a part-time lecturer or visiting instructor, is a non-tenure-track academic who teaches specific courses at universities or colleges on a contractual, usually temporary basis. The term 'adjunct' originates from Latin meaning 'joined to,' reflecting their supplemental role to core faculty. Unlike full-time professors, adjuncts do not receive benefits like health insurance or job security but offer flexibility to institutions facing fluctuating enrollment.

In Sumgait City, adjunct professors are increasingly vital in higher education, supporting institutions such as Baku State University and ADA University amid expansions in oil-funded programs and Bologna Process alignments since the early 2000s. They fill gaps in subjects like petroleum engineering, economics, and languages, helping meet demands from a growing student population of over 200,000.
