🎓 What is a PhD?

A PhD, short for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), represents the pinnacle of academic achievement, earned through original research that advances knowledge in a chosen discipline. Unlike taught master's degrees focused on coursework, a PhD emphasizes independent investigation, culminating in a dissertation defended before experts. This degree equips holders with expertise to lead groundbreaking studies, teach at universities, or innovate in industry.

In the context of higher education, pursuing a PhD means committing to rigorous intellectual pursuits, often spanning several years of full-time dedication. The term 'PhD jobs' typically refers to funded studentships or positions where candidates receive stipends to conduct research while enrolled.
