What Is an Adjunct Professor? 🎓

An adjunct professor, also known as a part-time lecturer or visiting faculty, is a non-tenure-track academic who teaches specific courses at universities or colleges on a contractual basis. This role provides flexibility, allowing professionals to contribute expertise without full-time commitment. The term 'adjunct' originates from Latin, meaning 'added to,' reflecting their supplementary nature to core faculty. In higher education, adjunct professor jobs have grown since the 1970s amid budget constraints, now comprising up to 70% of instructors in some systems globally.

In Amman Governorate, adjunct professors play a vital role in expanding access to quality education, especially as enrollment rises at institutions like the University of Amman Governorate. They often fill gaps in specialized courses, blending industry experience with academic delivery.
