About Anne

Emeritus Professor Anne Green is Professor of Astrophysics in the School of Physics at the University of Sydney. She earned her PhD in physics from the University of Sydney in 1973, becoming the first female PhD student enrolled in the School of Physics. After her doctorate, she undertook research at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Germany, followed by a 15-year break from astronomy between 1975 and 1991. She rejoined the School of Physics in 1991 and built a prolific career focused on the structure and ecology of the Milky Way Galaxy and its constituents via radio frequency surveys. Her research encompasses searches for supernova remnants and OH masers, detailed studies of the Carina Nebula including its HI and molecular gas distributions, and leadership of the UTMOST project to detect and characterize Fast Radio Bursts using the Molonglo Telescope. Representative publications include "The Carina Nebula and Gum 31 Molecular Complex. III. The Distribution of the 1–3 GHz Radio Continuum across the Whole Nebula" (2021) and "The UTMOST Pulsar Timing Programme – II. Timing Noise across the Pulsar Population" (2020).
