Rate My Professor Emad Ebeid

Ebeid's research centers on robot programming, programmable digital electronics, accelerators, sensors and sensing, and distributed systems, with a particular emphasis on the design of autonomous drone systems for infrastructure inspection and interaction. He has coordinated the EU H2020 Drones4Safety project, served as Principal Investigator for Horizon Europe SPADE and H2020 Aerial-Core projects, and led the Innovation Fund Grand Solutions Drones4Energy project as well as SDU LightHouse Drones for Energy. His contributions include the Carlsberg Semper Ardens: Accomplish grant awarded on December 10, 2025, a European patent for "A Power Line Engagement System For An Electrically Powered Aerial Vehicle" (IPC No. B64U50/30, 2025), and key publications such as "Omnidirectional Solid-State mmWave Radar Perception for UAV Power Line Collision Avoidance" (IEEE ICRA 2026), "Effects of Electric Sparks on Drone Components in Contact with High-Voltage Power Lines and a Mitigation Method for Shielding-Free Designs" (submitted to IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2025), "Embedded Robust Model Predictive Path Integral Control using Sensitivity Tubes and GPU Acceleration" (IEEE ICRA 2025), and "Modeling Electric Spark Discharges on Drones in Contact with High-Voltage Power Lines and Lab Equivalent Tests" (IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 40(6), 2025). Boasting 83 research outputs, including 20 journal articles and 55 conference proceedings, his scholarship has earned over 1,655 citations, advancing fields like UAV safety, edge computing, FPGAs, and MPSoCs. Additionally, he has organized workshops, served as a guest lecturer, and acted as peer reviewer for the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
