About Jianqiao

Professor Jianqiao Ye, BEng, MSc, PhD, serves as Professor and Chair in Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University, where he joined in 2012. His academic career in the UK previously included positions at Aston University, Cardiff University, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Leeds. A Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer, Ye is a member of the Lancaster Intelligent, Robotic and Autonomous Systems Centre. His research addresses key challenges in engineering science and technology, including failure and damage mechanics of fibre-reinforced composites, advanced steel-concrete composite structures, geopolymers, lightweight and sustainable cementitious materials, cement and concrete carbonation, offshore oil and gas structures, and vibration energy harvesting. Ye brings extensive experience in experimental testing, numerical modelling, and optimization of complex materials and structural systems, recently incorporating advanced techniques such as X-ray computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy alongside data-driven methods like metamodelling, machine learning, and digital twins.
