Walliss's research investigates the relationship between theory, culture, and contemporary design practice in landscape architecture, with primary interests in digital technologies and their role in reconceptualizing design and making, as well as evolving notions of civic space in global contexts. She co-authored Landscape Architecture and Digital Technologies: Reconceptualising Design and Making (Routledge, 2016) with Heike Rahmann, and contributed to The Big Asian Book of Landscape Architecture (2020). Other key publications include Transformative Landscapes: Postcolonial Representations of Uluru-Kata Tjuta and Tongariro National Parks (Space and Culture, 2013), The Experimental Nature of Simulation (2016), and Digital Modelling as Interdisciplinary Design Practice: A Focus on Microclimate Simulation (2020). Her earlier scholarship addressed postcolonial representations in national parks and museums in Australia and New Zealand, appearing in journals such as Environment and History, Museum and Society, and Journal of Landscape Architecture. Walliss has led projects such as Book Design With Nature Now (2018-2019) and presented findings at conferences including the Digital Landscape Architecture Conference and CUMULUS. Her work advances pedagogical approaches to digital integration in design education and informs international practice in cultural and performative landscape strategies.
