Reed is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and has received the ESRC Outstanding Societal Impact Prize in 2019 for the aforementioned project, as well as the BSA Foundation for Sociology of Health and Illness book prize in 2024 for Understanding Baby Loss: The Sociology of Life, Death and Postmortem (2023, Manchester University Press, co-authored with J. Ellis and E. Whitby). Key publications include 'Capital of Life in Death: How Bereaved Individuals Mobilise Cultural and Social Capital in UK Death Administration' (2025, with L.
