Rate My Professor Lawrence Uren

Uren's research specializes in macroeconomics, with a particular emphasis on labour markets, search theory, unemployment dynamics, entrepreneurship, and housing economics. He examines the welfare effects of policies such as investment housing tax concessions, negative gearing, and stamp duties, often employing quantitative general equilibrium models with heterogeneous agents. As a key member of the Macroeconomics Research Unit at the University of Melbourne, his contributions inform both academic discourse and public policy debates on housing affordability and labour market efficiency. Notable publications include 'Investment Housing Tax Concessions and Welfare: Evidence from Australia' (International Economic Review, 2023, with Yunho Cho and Shuyun May Li), 'Stamping Out Stamp Duty: Housing Mismatch and Welfare' (Quantitative Economics, 2024, with Yunho Cho and Shuyun May Li), 'Search and the Labour Market' (Australian Economic Review, 2014), 'Understanding Housing Affordability in Australia' (Australian Economic Papers, 2021, with Yunho Cho), and 'The Political Economy of Wages and Unemployment: A Neoclassical Exploration' (2008). These works have advanced understanding of how fiscal policies influence housing markets, homeownership rates, and labour allocations in Australia. Uren maintains an active presence through his Google Scholar profile and personal academic website.
