Rate My Professor Nadimul Faisal

Faisal's research focuses on surface science & engineering, multi-scale mechanics, thermal spray coatings, metasurfaces, materials for steam & thermochemical cycle electrolysis, non-destructive testing, acoustic emission wave propagation in multi-layer structures, residual strain measurement using neutron diffraction, corrosion monitoring, nano/micromechanics, surface/subsurface degradation, and geothermal energy. He has led or co-led projects funded by EPSRC (EP/W033178/1 METASIS on solid oxide steam electrolysers, UKRI3156 METASIS 2.0), EPSRC NetworkPlus in Digitalised Surface Manufacturing, Henry Royce Institute, Scottish Funding Council, Oil & Gas Innovation Centre, Innovate UK, and others. A Chartered Engineer (CEng MIMechE MIMMM FHEA), he is a Member of the Young Academy of Scotland and founder of Sequetrics Limited for surface inspection technologies. He has supervised 15 postgraduate research students to completion. Key publications include 'Nanoindentation of polysilicon and single crystal silicon: Molecular dynamics simulation and experimental validation' (2014), 'Acoustic emission method for defect detection and identification in carbon steel welded joints' (2017), 'Twinning anisotropy of tantalum during nanoindentation' (2015), and 'An improved Vickers indentation fracture toughness model to assess the quality of thermally sprayed coatings' (2014).
