Dr. Johnson's research focuses on accounting education, including online versus face-to-face instruction for entry-level students, instructional design such as study habits and adaptive interactive e-books, interdisciplinary collaboration, and CPA Exam preparation. Key publications include “Online versus face-to-face instruction: Entry level accounting students are performing about the same” co-authored with Candalyn Rade (2024, The North American Accounting Studies 7(1): 19-32); “Study habits shift to adaptive interactive e-books: Rethinking instructional design” with C.B. She has presented “Virtual Presence: Teaching Virtual Meeting Mastery in the Classroom” and an accounting business case, led financial literacy workshops as a Certified Financial Education Instructor, serves as Broyhill faculty advisor, received the Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Development Award in 2025, and teaches Financial, Managerial and Intermediate Accounting, Audit, and Accounting Processes and Systems.
