About Niranjan

Dr. Niranjan Ramesh serves as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago, part of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. He earned a B.Tech. from an institution in India, an M.Sc. from the University of Sheffield, and a Ph.D. from the University of Otago in 2019, with his doctoral thesis titled 'Novel Bioactive Hydroxyapatite Composite from New Zealand Sika Red Deer Cancellous Bone,' supervised by George J. Dias and Stephen Moratti. Ramesh's research expertise centers on translational research in biomaterials and regenerative medicine, where he develops novel biomaterials from natural and synthetic sources, such as bovine-derived and deer bone hydroxyapatite composites, modifying them to enhance functionality, biocompatibility, and performance for bone tissue regeneration and dental applications. His scholarship extends to teaching and learning, including the integration of artificial intelligence in education. He received the University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship during his PhD studies.
