About Oliver

Professor Oliver Hofmann serves as Professor in the Department of Clinical Pathology and Head of Bioinformatics at the Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine within the University of Melbourne. He leads the Genomics Platform Group in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, where his team develops computational infrastructure, workflows, and standards to enable the use of genomic data in clinical settings. This includes rapid whole genome and transcriptome analysis for cancer patients, focusing on sequencing and analysis of cancer genomes to improve diagnosis and treatment. The group maintains clinically accredited workflows, partners with entities like Illumina and the Hartwig Medical Foundation, and contributes to national infrastructure through Australian Genomics and Australian BioCommons. Internationally, Hofmann's efforts support data harmonization and exchange across large-scale cancer cohorts via collaborations with the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), Genomics England, and others.
