Rate My Professor Patricia Desmond

Her research specializations encompass neuroimaging, stroke imaging, functional neuroimaging, brain imaging, magnetic resonance imaging techniques, diffusion magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, diagnostic radiology, and diagnostic imaging. Desmond contributes to the Centre of Research Excellence in Neuroimaging and has led investigations into critical areas such as tissue reperfusion after thrombectomy, brain iron metabolism in neurodegenerative conditions, glutamate imaging in ischemic stroke, and the safety of endovascular brain-computer interfaces. Notable publications include 'Tenecteplase versus Alteplase before Endovascular Thrombectomy (EXTEND-IA TNK): A Multicenter, Randomized, Controlled Study' (2017), which established superior early reperfusion rates with tenecteplase; 'Motor Neuroprosthesis Implanted with Neurointerventional Surgery Improves Capacity for Activities of Daily Living Tasks in Severe Paralysis: First in-Human Experience' (2020); 'Assessment of Safety of a Fully Implanted Endovascular Brain-Computer Interface for Severe Paralysis in 4 Patients: The Stentrode With Thought-Controlled Digital Switch (SWITCH) Study' (2023); 'In Vivo 7-Tesla MRI Investigation of Brain Iron and Its Metabolic Correlates in Chronic Schizophrenia' (2022); and 'Investigation of Brain Iron in Niemann-Pick Type C: A 7T Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Study' (2023). With over 26,000 citations, her scholarly output has profoundly impacted stroke thrombolysis protocols, thrombectomy efficacy assessments, and neuroimaging methodologies for neurological disorders.
