About Paul

Professor Paul Gooley is a Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Melbourne, affiliated with the School of Biomedical Sciences, Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, and the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute. He holds BSc and PhD degrees and heads the Gooley laboratory specializing in receptor structural biology. Gooley's research employs solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to determine protein structures, dynamics, and interactions, with a focus on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), peptide receptors, viral proteins, and disease-associated biomolecules. His laboratory investigates ligand binding, allosteric mechanisms, conformational dynamics, and protein phase separation, contributing to insights into drug development and disease mechanisms such as those in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and rabies virus infections.
