About Peter

Dr.ir. Peter C. Meijers is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Steel & Composite Structures within the Department of Engineering Structures at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. His research specializes in active magnetic control of engineering structures, developing non-contact magnetic strategies to enhance steel structure performance. As the contact person for this research, he explores stabilizing suspended loads during offshore wind turbine installations from floating vessels to mitigate wave-induced responses, reducing vibrations in steel buildings for optimized serviceability limit state designs with less material, and minimizing vehicle-induced vibrations in railway bridges to extend fatigue life. The work features lab-scale physical experiments, mathematical modeling for concept validation, and progresses to practical-scale applications with industry partners including Heerema Marine Contractors. Themes include structural integrity through innovative monitoring, damage assessment, prediction, maintenance, and structures for energy transition.
