Chow specializes in experimental geotechnical engineering, focusing on offshore geotechnics such as site investigations using free-fall penetrometers, anchoring solutions in sand, strain rate effects in soil, geotechnical physical modelling, laboratory soil testing, centrifuge modelling, and foundation solutions for offshore renewable energy applications. She serves as Chief Investigator on several Australian Research Council Discovery Projects, including two as Lead Chief Investigator. Key publications include 'Soil strength estimation and pore pressure dissipation for free-fall piezocone in soft clay' (2014), 'Drained cyclic capacity of plate anchors in dense sand: Experimental and theoretical observations' (2015), and 'Dynamic analysis of a smooth penetrometer free-falling into uniform clay' (2012). Her contributions have earned the Telford Premium Prize (2016) and Manby Prize (2014) from the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), along with multiple international best paper awards. Chow holds positions as Centre Director and Chair of the Steering Committee for the Australian Centre for Offshore Wind Energy (ACOWE), Deputy Program Leader for Power Generation and Transport at the Melbourne Energy Institute, Associate Editor for Géotechnique Letters and International Journal of Physical Modelling in Geotechnics, member of ISSMGE Technical Committee 214 on Foundation Engineering for Difficult Soft Soil Conditions, and Secretary of the Australian Geomechanics Society (Victorian Chapter).
