About Susie

Susie Wilson is Principal Lecturer in Rehabilitation at the University of Cumbria, where she leads the occupational therapy and physiotherapy programme teams and serves as Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy within the Institute of Health. She joined the university in 2006 following sixteen years of clinical practice in the NHS and third sector, where she worked as an occupational therapist and neuro-rehabilitation co-ordinator, leading multi-disciplinary teams in the care of individuals with brain injury, stroke, long-term neurological conditions, and complex disabilities. Her academic qualifications include an MSc, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PgCE), a Diploma in Occupational Therapy (Dip COT), and she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Research at Lancaster University. Wilson’s research and academic interests focus on occupational therapy student education, particularly learning on role-emerging practice placements and threshold concepts in technology-enabled care services during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has a particular interest in neuro occupational therapy and the use of arts in health to support recovery, health, and wellbeing.
