Dr Uzziah Mutumbi is a researcher in Environmental Science at Rhodes University. He holds an MSc and PhD in Environmental Science from Rhodes University. His research centres on the socio-technical dimensions of energy transitions in the Global South, with emphasis on South Africa, including factors influencing solar photovoltaic adoption and electricity use behaviour among households.
Dr Mutumbi employs mixed-methods approaches combining national surveys, statistical analysis, GIS-based spatial mapping, and qualitative interviews. He has authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as barriers to residential rooftop solar PV systems, behavioural patterns of electricity use among low-income households, co-designed interventions for electricity savings, and the status of household electricity use behaviour research in South Africa.
